Description

Institute of Non-ferrous Metals (Instytut Metali Niezelaznych – IMN), established in 1952, is the main research and development centre of the Polish non-ferrous industry. IMN has two scientific sectors of activities in Gliwice: Mineral Processing and Metallurgy, and Material Processing and Engineering; as well as Light Metals Division in Skawina, Division in Legnica, Central Laboratory of Batteries and Cells in Poznań. The Institute conducts studies in full research cycle, from lab-scale to pilot and industrial scale studies, in the area of all non-ferrous metals, especially Cu, Al, Zn, Pb, by-product metals, Ag, in such specialities as: processing of ores and other mineral resources including secondary resources, pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, treatment of scrap and waste, environmental protection, analytical chemistry, metal processing, material engineering – new materials, chemical power sources. The conducted research and development studies are of application character mostly therefore the results can be directly implemented in industry.

IMN and Raw Materials

Besides participation in PCRec project, IMN coordinates other EIT KIC Raw materials project, i.e.: RIGaT – Technology for recovery of indium, germanium and tin from lead bearing alloys generated in zinc refinement for direct implementation in industrial practice (upscaling project) Furthermore IMN is a partner of EXTREME – Substitution of critical raw materials (CRMs) in components and coating used under extreme conditions (Network of Infrastructure coordinated by ENEA), Net-Flot – Flotation-Network (Network of Infrastructure coordinated by Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf), PILOTMET – European Pilot Plant Network for Extractive Metallurgy and Mineral Processing (Network of Infrastructure coordinated by SWEREA MEFOS), NANOGREAT – Graphene NANOcomposites REActors at preindustrial Technology readiness (Network of Infrastructure coordinated by TRENTO RISE/FBK/UNITN), SOLVOFLEX- Solvometallurgy Infrastructure and Expertise Network (Network of Infrastructure coordinated by VTT), RMProSchool – EIT RM High Level Professional School (lifelong learning project coordinated by TU Bergakademie Freiberg) and CLLEFE – Concept for Lifelong Learning for European Foundry Employees (lifelong learning project coordinated by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB (Swerea SWECAST AB).
